At dinner last night, our family was gathered around the dining table with our Advent Wreath lit uttering our prayers of thanksgiving for all that the Lord has done for us. One of the boys' friends was present and after dinner I pulled out my laptop to try to find Advent prayers that I posted on this blog a few years ago. I didn't find the prayer, but what I did find was a treasure trove of memories so carefully documented since 2007. We read about things forgotten and realized the magic once again of those special moments.
So here's to memories! As Father so beautifully stated in his homily this week (in my paraphrased words), the past are memories that we bring into the present, and the future is something we look forward to that we can bring into the here and now. The future keeps us hopeful.
Advent is a time of hope as we await the celebration of the Christmas season. But how can we enjoy the season of Advent with all of those extra worries, with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday preparations? Sometimes taking one thing to heart can make all the difference. And for me it is the concept of hope.
As we take each day this Advent, as we clean, cook, and prepare, let us ponder the hope that has started in our hearts. For we can certainly look in the past and know in the present that God has taken care of us every bit along the way. We can breathe in and out slowly, with a prayer on our lips, for whatever or whomever it may be. We can bake those cookies and wrap those gifts prayerfully. In the busyness and the bustle we can find peace knowing that the future is hopeful and it is there for us to embrace.
May you have the gift of peace and hope this Advent season!
