Well, since we have started school, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at one of our "school days".
This was Tuesday September 18, 2007 (Birthday of my Brother, Adam)
6:30-7:00 Rise and shine:)
7:00-8:00 Eat, brush teeth, make beds, come downstairs and read
Alex-The Odyssey, Andre-I, Juan de Pareja, Forrest- Tales of Ancient Egypt(Lily still eating and waking. She is a n
night owl.)
8:00 Gathering time-2 decades of Rosary, read Proverbs 6:1-24(loved the part about listening to your father and
mother).
Skipped the rest of chapter 6 since it was mainly dealing with the sixth and ninth commandments. Read the
pope's general intentions and mission intentions for September(copied from Catholic Heritage Curricula's free
curriculum.)
Prayed for friends and family and their intentions. Thought we'd implement the wonderful ideas from our friends...
a prayer jar with names and intentions written on hearts, and a prayer intention book so that we can check off
prayers that have been answered.
8:30 The kids voted for their favorite read aloud of all times, The Scarlet Pimpernel. We looked at our timeline at the
time period in which The Scarlet Pimpernel takes place and read chapter 1. We love the Hero, The Scarlet
Pimpernel, and chapter 1 starts out with him saving some of those French Aristos! Molly(4) and Lily cheered for
one more chapter but we had to move on.(By the way the cheering worked on Wednesday and we just had to read
on).
We discussed the five paragraph essay and our oldest had good advice on how to write the five paragraph essay.
The kids spoke about what three items they could put in their thesis statement.
9:00 Everybody broke for their core subjects, latin,math, and religion
Lily and Molly made Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows with ribbons and 7 hearts. The boys read Genesis as per the
lesson plan in T3 Bible Study and part of Chapter 2 in Didache's Understanding the Scriptures. Forrest continued
catechism memory work and Image of God 6. Nobody needed help with math today:) Thank you Teaching
Textbooks! Helped Forrest with his latin vocabulary, corrected some latin. Lily worked through her math, spelling,
english, and copywork.
11:30 The core subjects are complete and now for a game of Latin Clue. This was in Forrest's homework for his online
latin course. We converted our Clue game to Latin Clue by using Post-Its changing some of the rooms, names of
weapons, and suspects to their latin alternatives. Everybody joined in for the game. Lily and Molly were on one
team. Lots of laughing and giggles throughout the game. Forrest came up with Dominus Purpureus(Mr. Purple)
doing it in the Triclinium(dining room) with the Baculo(rod). Molly(4) insisted that Domina Rubra(Mrs. Red) did it
in the Taberna(store) with the Sacco Gravi(heavy sack). She said,"Mrs Red did it with the "sack of gravey". Everyone
giggled and starting making their comments. Was the gravey hot, cold, thick, thin? Alex was sure that whatever
the consistancy of the gravey, it was done real SLOWLY.:>)
12:00 Break for lunch and running around outside
12:45 Music. Worked with the boys and Lily with vocal exercises, triads, harmonizing, etc. Worked on "A Little Help From
My Friends" back up vocals with the boys. Then, we worked with the metronome with their songs for timing
purposes.
2:00 Outdoor play. The kids played Bocce Ball and Whiffle Ball. Andre went into his hives. Alex read some more of The
Odyssey.
3:00 Andre and Alex came in for online Latin 100 class. I read two chapters of Nancy Drew to the 3 younger kids. It's
my bribery for their good behavior. There is a real villain in this mystery. He actually let Nancy fall off of a terrace
without offering any aid to her! She was "slightly bruised, with a slight sprain to her wrist." Hopefully she'll be able
to participate in the golf tournament! I periodically checked on the latin students.
4:30 Alex has two guitar students to teach.
5:30 Everybody is done and running wild outside.
This was one of those really smooth days. It is one I will pull up and read when we have the tough days... which will happen.
Notice. I didn't have to insert tantrum times because there weren't any. Some days there may be tantrums from the 4 year old on the hour and "Why do I have to do this?" from the 8 year old before each task. I am thankful for the good days and I will hold them close to my heart like the treasure that thet are:)

Wow, what a great, full day! Very inspiring and fun to read. We are following many of the same paths these days, and it really helps me to see how you pull it all together. Really wish we could come over for your music lessons!
